COMPLETE STRIPPING AND REFINISHING

With this service, we completely strip the old finish, perform any repairs necessary, sand, and refinish the item to your color specifications. We can usually lighten items, and can almost always darken the color of an item. To strip the wood, we use a flow-over method instead of a dip tank. The advantages of the flow-over method is that we can more closely direct the stripper, continually watch the stripping progress, be gentler in areas where there is concern that veneer may be lifting, and it is much easier on the item being stripped. After rinsing, the item is basically bare wood. At times, there may be additional steps needed to bleach out some dye that may have been used in the intitial manufacture and finish of the item.

You can choose the color you would like the finished item to be to match other items in the room, home decor, personal preference, etc. You can also choose the finish type, topcoat, that you wish. For some items, we recommend a polyurethane as it is a tried and true, hard, durable finish especially for items like tables.

READY TO FINISH SERVICE

With the Ready to Finish Service, the process is the same as the complete refinishing service, with the exception that we stop after the sanding steps. This allows you to do any repairs, apply your own sealers, colors, and topcoats. Please note, that we will do any repairs you request, but there may be an additional charge.

STRIP ONLY SERVICE

This is exactly what it says. We will take your piece, run it through the stripping and rinsing process and stop. With this service, we cannot be responsible for the outcome of the item as far as finishability or how the old finish stripped off. Many times, especially with older painted surfaces, there will be evidence of paint remaining that would normally be sanded off with one of the other services. You will need to sand the items before finishing, as the grain will be raised somewhat, and sanding is always necessary to smooth and clean the surface.

A WORD ABOUT PAINTED SURFACES

The price for dealing with a painted surface is almost twice that of a clear topcoat finish. There are multiple reasons for this, some being it uses more stripper, takes longer, uses more effort, needs more sanding etc...So if you are considering having a painted piece stripped, please keep this in mind. In addition, if a piece was painted over bare or raw wood, it will be impossible to get all the paint out of the grain, especially in heavily grained woods such as oak.
